Jane Reeble has been chosen to receive the 2008 Emporia Distinguished Citizen Award from the Jayhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. The Council presents the awards annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to local youth causes.

Reeble and her late husband founded the Jane and Bernard Reeble Foundation and has been a consistent contributor to causes that benefit area youths.

She has made substantial donations to the Boy Scouts, according to local Scout official Erik McGuire, and to other local educational organizations.

“On a regular basis, she’s donated money not only to the Boy Scouts but also Flint Hills Technical College” and other groups, McGuire said. “She’s got quite a record of giving to the community.”

Reeble will be honored on June 19, with a reception and dinner in the Colonial Ballroom of Emporia State University.

Steve Haught is chairman of the event, assisted by committee members Tom Thomas, Dean Hollenbeck, Mike Crouch and Ken Buchele, who will be master of ceremonies.

The dinner is open to the public at a cost of $100 per person. Proceeds will be used to benefit Scouting programs in the Emporia area.

Table sponsorships also are being sold at a cost of $1,000 per table of six.

McGuire said that individuals and businesses that buy table sponsorships also receive preferred seating and their names in the event program, in addition to entry to a reception prior to the dinner.

The dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

More information may be had by calling McGuire at 481-0910.
