A public hearing will be held on Lyon County’s five-year bridge replacement plan during next week’s Lyon County Commission meeting.
Commissioners met Wednesday morning for their weekly study session and discussed the plan, which was submitted to the Kansas Department of Transportation. The bridges on the plan are on: Road K north of Road 190 and on Road 330, east of Road S-5; Road Z, north of Road 340; Road X, north of Road 370; Road 260, east of Road M; Road G, north of Road 30; Road 30, east of Road J; Road E, south of Road 60; and Road 82 just east of Road P5. Fifteen culverts around the county also are on the list for replacement. The public hearing will be at 10 a.m. on June 12.
In other business:
• Commissioners discussed the paving of the parking lot at the Lyon County Extension Office. Portions of the lot, which is now gravel, will be black topped. Discussions are taking place with a neighboring business, S&S Oil and Propane. The way the parking lot is laid out, water will run off into the neighboring property. Commission Chairman Scott Briggs said there will either need to be a dip in the asphalt or the neighboring property will need to be black topped as well to prevent problems.
• Commissioners discussed two applications for zoning changes from agriculture use to agriculture special-use single family dwelling by two separate applicants: Ralph and Grace Van Sickle and Kenneth and Debra Schlesener.
