The Emporia chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will receive 40 percent of the money collected by the local group for the state-wide NAMI Walk held last month in Topeka.
Rhonda Moreland of Americus, who serves on the state NAMI board of directors, said the state organization collected $92,000.
“And there’s still more coming in,” Moreland said.
The local group will receive 40 percent of the $2,500 raised in the Emporia area for the state walk, and the same percentage of the money sent in after the event. The local collection included a $1,000 donation from Wal-Mart and $1,500 in other donations, she said.
An additional $500 was donated by the Mental Health Center of East-Central Kansas.
