It’s time to stop and smell the flowers in Chase County.
The 16th Annual Flint Hills Prairie Wildflower and Pasture Tour will be on June 12. Two tours will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
“The beauty of the Flint Hills comes alive as folks enjoy this informational tour,” said Mike Holder, Chase County Extension agent.
Tour participants are asked to meet on Kansas Highway 177 in Matfield Green in front of the BNSF Railway office (old Matfield Green Post Office) or at the Cassoday Grade School in Cassoday. The school bus caravan will proceed off main roads with stops at pasture sites in Chase County.
Gary Kilgore, KSU Extension Agronomist emeritus, will be on the tour to identify plants and talk about their value to the ecosystem.
The Wildflower Educational Tour is sponsored by the Chase County Conservation District, Butler County Extension Service and Chase County Extension Service. A donation per adult is asked to help cover expenses.
