Gets scholarship
David Michael Hanks, a graduating senior at Northern Heights High School, received a $2,000 MFA Foundation scholarship at the NHHS awards ceremony. The scholarship was sponsored by AGChoice at Emporia. Hanks, the son of Michael and Donna Hanks of Reading, plans to attend Kansas State University at Manhattan.
K-State graduates
Lyon County residents who graduated from Kansas State University in May include Bradley Lee Edwards, bachelor of science in economics, and Kristina Lucille Martin, bachelor of science in both agribusiness and business administration, both of Hartford; Keith David Dedonder, doctor of veterinary medicine and master of science, Leah Beth Ferdinand, bachelor of science in agriculture, and Tamara Lightfoot, bachelor of science in feed science and management, all of Reading.
Talent search
Seventh-grade area students who were recognized as academically talented students by the Duke Talent Identification Program during the state recognition ceremony June 1 at the University of Kansas included Ian D. Campbell, Ryan Garbe, Haley B. Gilman and Melissa M. Yunk, all of Burlington. Each student also received a Duke TIP medallion. Selection to duke TIP is based on colllege entrance examination scores that are in the top 5 percent while the students are in middle school.
New nurses pinned
Twyla Owen of Cottonwood Falls and Lauryn Patty of El Dorado were pinned at the Butler Community College Nursing Program ceremony held May 15 at El Dorado. Owen and Patty were two of the 56 nurses who completed the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing and are now eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure test in the state of their choice.
