Student of the month
Asher Delmott was named the Lions Club student of the month for April. Asher graduated with honors this May from Emporia High School, where he ran cross country. He will attend Emporia State University and has received a scholarship to run cross country. He is the son of Dennis and Patti Delmott of Emporia.

Nurses pinned
Matthew Berry, Ashley Dunn and Brenda Hinesley, all of Emporia, were pinned at the Butler Community College Nursing Program ceremony on May 15 at El Dorado. The graduates have completed the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing and are eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure test in the state of their choice.
On honor roll
Rebecca Montgomery of Emporia was named to the spring 2008 president’s honor roll at Oklahoma Christian University, where she is a junior studying early childhood education.
Savannah Rust of Emporia was named to the spring 2008 honor roll at Oklahoma Christian University, where she is a senior studying nursing.
Gets certificate
Bethany Anne Stanbrough of Emporia, a senior at the University of Kansas who is studying strategic communications, received a Global Awareness Program certificate from the university. She is the daughter of Mark and Wendy Stanbrough and a graduate of Emporia Senior High School.
Talent search
Seventh-grade students from Emporia who were recognized at the June 1 state recognition ceremony at the University of Kansas as academically talented students by the Duke Talent Identification Program included Emily D. Giffin, Oasis M. Hernandez, Derek A. Ricketts, Dallas N. Shafer, Talia A. Smith and Katherine M. Weiser. The students also received Duke TIP medallions. The students were selected to Duke TIP based on college entrance examination scores that were in the top 5 percent.
