Precinct map errors

Lyon County Clerk Karen Hartenbower said there are two errors in the map of Lyon County’s voting precincts that has been running as an advertisement in recent editions of The Gazette. The wrong polling places are given for two precincts.

The polling place for Precinct 7 will be the First Christian Church.

The polling place for Precinct 21 will be the North Lyon County Library at Allen.

Peewee rodeo postponed

The Peewee Rodeo scheduled tonight at the Lyon County Free Fair has been postponed. Shelia Price, fair secretary, said recent heavy rains made the fairgrounds arena too wet for the youngsters to compete safely.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Eagle Creek Saddle Club arena west of Olpe.

For information, call 341-0727.

Wristband night at the fair carnival will be held as scheduled tonight. The cost is $18 for unlimited carnival rides.

Deer kills driver

SCOTT CITY — A Scott City man was killed in western Kansas when a deer careened off another car and smashed through his windshield.

Thirty-one-year-old Jason Kanak died Wednesday night after a deer hit by another vehicle flew into the windshield of his pickup truck on Highway 4 in Scott County. The State Highway Patrol says the deer went completely through the truck and out the back window.

Kanak’s wife, Lisa, was able to grab the steering wheel and get the truck back onto the road after it swerved into a ditch.
