Girl Scout swim cancelled
The annual Swim Bash for the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland has been cancelled for this year.
The swim was to have been held Friday at the Jones Aquatic Center. It will not be rescheduled, according to an announcement from Scouts Community Development Manager Melissa Davis.
Davis said that not enough girls had enrolled to warrant holding the event.
Calendar photo contest
The H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund again is sponsoring a photo contest during the annual Pooch Plunge on Aug. 16 at the Jones Aquatic Center.
To enter, submit a photo of your family with your animal adopted from the Buck Fund or another animal shelter along with a story of how the pet was adopted and how it has impacted your life. During the Pooch Plunge, the entry photos and stories will be posted. Donations will be used to vote for favorites. The top 12 photos will be published in the 2009 Buck Fund Shelter Calendar.

Card shower
