Morgan family

The Morgan family reunion was held June 29 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Emporia.

Herbert E. Morgan Jr., gave the invocation before dinner was served.

Those attending from out of state were Carl and Marilyn Morgan of Skiatook, Okla.; Herbert Jr., and Joann Morgan of Albuquerque, N.M.; Bert Wickey and Jake, of Medina, Ohio; Matthew Combes, Jackie, Finn and Elzi, of New Boston, Mo.

Attending from Kansas were Randy and Lisa Edes and Michael and Kimberly Duncan of Berryton; Steve and Kayla Morgan McKinzie, Beth and Joel, of Manhattan; Russell and Kathie Morgan and Brandon Morgan and Madison, of Wichita; Richard and Anita Morgan, Steve Morgan, Gale and Christine Morgan Combes and Julie Combes, Kali and Parker, all of Lebo; Robert Morgan of Maple Hill; Travis Morgan, Dolton and Trenton, of Topeka; Jennifer Combes, Christian, Julien and Nicholas, of Hartford and Terri Roush of LaHarpe.

Attending from Emporia were Mary “Betty” Morgan, Doris Smith, Marvin and Gayle Morgan Brown, Matthew and Stephanie Brown, Mike and Linda Morgan, Shawn and Tabatha Morgan Crisp, Kendra and Tyson, and Carl and Terry Morgan.

A red, white and blue color scheme was used for decorating tables. A table was set up for pictures, especially in remembrance of Herbert E. Morgan Sr, and Marvin W. Morgan, Kenneth and Jackie Morgan, Terri Lynn Morgan and Kyle Morgan. Pictures of other family members unable to attend were also shown. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon of reminiscing about their younger days and showing how their families have grown and expanded.

Giger family

The annual family reunion of the James and Myrtle Johnston Giger family was held July 13 at the country home of James and Barbara Blackburn of rural Topeka.

A “bountiful” dinner was served, said the reunion reporter, and there were many activities a person could do — riding an ATV or golf cart, paddle boating, fishing, visiting and sharing pictures.

Those present from out of state were J.R. Miller of Brazil, Ind.; Lorraine Leibold, Eileen Taylor and Julie Drummond of Independence, Mo.; Kenneth and Ginger Giger and Kim Hart of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Maria Day’s niece from Ohio.

From Kansas were Doris Day, Don and Carole Day, Bruce and Joleen Day and Ben and Lisa Jarvis, all of Council Grove; Derek and Sondra Sparks of Ottawa; Deon, Maria and James Day of Hesston; Woody and Pat Ecord of Cassoday; Randy, Heather, Xavier and Alexander Blackburn and Linda Blackburn of Hutchinson; Paul, Kris and Alyssa Olivier and Matt Stewart of Andover; Rob and Carmen Kraus of Talmage; Jim and Barbara Blackburn, Brett, Suzy, Nikki and Michael Blackburn, all of Topeka; Tom, Patrick and Lauren Blackburn of Prairie Village; and Marvin and Terry Bush and Clyde and Lois Bush of Allen.

Brown family

Descendants of the Nicholas and Elizabeth Trear Brown family held their reunion on July 20 at the American Legion in Emporia. A special guest was Elizabeth Brown Bechtel of Emporia, who is 100 and the only surviving family member of Nicholas and Elizabeth Brown.

Attending from out of state were Leo and Arlene Schneider of Lakewood, Colo.; Dorothy Bechtel and Steve Parker of Grapevine, Texas; and Jeff and Kim Hailey of South Sioux City, Neb.

Those attending from Kansas were Randy and Lisa Edes and Michael and Kimberly Duncan of Berryton; Virgil Brown, Harry and Alice Bechtel, Jim and Jackie Siebenaler, James Siebenaler and Elvira Bitler, Misty Kysar, Brandi and Jamie Siebenaler, all of Olpe; Marvin and Gayle Brown, John and Lori Siebenaler and Carl and Sharon Bechtel of Emporia; Tracy and Haley Brown of Westphalia; Louie, Leslie, Tyra and Shira Brown of Great Bend; Paul, Kerry, Chloe and Stella Foster of Hutchinson; Robert, Tonia, Dallas, Cathryne and Stefanie Gonzales of Wichita; and Alvin and Georgia Hailey of Elmdale.

The day was spent visiting, catching up on the latest news, taking many family pictures and enjoying reading the Brown Family Tree book.

A special event that everyone enjoyed watching was Virgil Brown sign the magazine, “Catfish-in-sider 2008 Guide” a “world foremost authority on Cat Fishing (catfishing) magazine,” said the reunion reporter. A story about Virgil Brown fishing and his hunt for worms was published in the magazine. Brown is a regular participant and winner at the U.S. Cats Division tournaments in Kansas.

The next reunion will be in 2010 with Dorothy Bechtel and Arlene Schneider as hostesses.
