Parenting workshop

Project TEEN of the Flint Hills Community Center is offering a free parent workshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Recreation Center Social Hall.

According to a news release, “pre-teens in this country describe parents as the most influential factor in their sexual decision making.” The workshop will present information about “how to talk to your child about sex.”

For enrollment or information, call Kenda O’Mara, Project TEEN Coordinator, at 342-4864, ext. 291 or e-mail at komara@flithillshillshealthorg.

Grain investigation

HUTCHINSON — A grain marketing company is under investigation for allegedly not delivering on contracts with several Kansas elevators.

Midwest Land and Livestock had several contracts scheduled for delivery by July 15, but the elevators haven’t received shipments or reimbursement, said Tom Tunnell, president of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association. Other elevators have contracts for July 31 delivery.

“We’re not sure how many principals are involved, but we’ve come up with three different names,” Tunnell said. “My understanding is some member elevators have had contact with a representative of the group, who indicated they want to make right whatever their obligation might be. But at this point, we’ve not seen that happen.”

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office has agreed to investigate, according to an e-mail sent by Tunnell’s group to its members.
