The Kiwanis Club of Emporia was the host for a potluck dinner and sleepover at the Emporia Recreation Center for the 20 Journey of Hope — TransAmerica Bicyclists and their support team.
Journey of Hope is a 12,000-mile combined, Push America cycling event that takes 82 Kappa Phi’s cycling of three different routes from San Francisco, Calif., and Seattle, Wash., to Washington, D.C. Journey of Hope is the premier event Push America organizes that brings together more than 100 communities and raises more than $500,000 on behalf of people with disabilities. The Journey of Hope also distributes more than 60 cycling events grants to partnering organizations in the cities visited. According to the club reporter, “the Journey of Hope team enjoyed some of the best home cooking around provided by the Kiwanis members, massages by Crystal’s Mobile Massage and Dan’s Hand Massage and Bodywork and then went to see the new Batman movie before bedding down for the night.” They left at 6 a.m. Saturday morning to continue their journey.
