Much like their championship game at state, the Emporia 10-and-under All-Stars scored in their final at-bat to take a lead.
Unfortunately for Emporia, this time Nebraska had an answer, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-6 victory Friday in the opening round of the Mid-West Regional Tournament in Burlington, Colo.
After falling behind 1-0, Emporia pulled ahead with a two-run second inning. Tyler Hertlein singled, Brian Aranda and Jacob Ramirez both walked, and Tate Demler followed with a two-run double.
Nebraska regained a 4-2 lead before Emporia tacked on another run in the fourth, as Josiah Duncan singled and later came around to score.
After Nebraska added an insurance run, the All-Stars tied it up again with a two-run fifth. Brady Baumgardner walked, Hertlein singled and Duncan followed with a double.
Emporia took a one-run lead in the sixth and final inning. Trent Burd singled before a Hertlein double scored him.
Nebraska came back in with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the walkoff victory.
The All-Stars drop to the losers bracket, where they will play either South Dakota or Missouri at 3 p.m. today.
