Kansas Shrine Bowl 5K All-Star Run
The first Kansas Shrine Bowl 5K All-Star Run will be held on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in Emporia. The race will start outside Welch Stadium, continue onto the streets of Emporia and finish on the Welch Stadium track.
The public is invited to attend or compete, as there is an open race that will run at the same time so any competitor can run along with the All-Stars. Day-of-race registration is available for $40, with the proceeds going to the Shriners Hospitals. Awards and participation certificates will be given to both the All-Stars and those from the public that participate in the run.
The All-Star race will feature 60 senior All-Star cross country runners with 15 runners on both the boys and girls teams for the East and West.
The girls race features five individuals who won State titles in 2007, including Olpe’s Sharon Zeller and Emporia’s Michaela Reynolds.
The boys race will have three individual State champions from 2007. The East team does not have a State champion, but it does have a runner-up in Jacob Davies from Emporia.
Emporia High will have five runners competing, the most of any school in the state. That includes Tyler Anliker, Davies, Asher Delmott, Andrew Wayman and Reynolds.
EHS coach Mark Stanbrough is one of three coaches for the East squad, along with Olpe High coach Tom Camien.
There also will be a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk starting at 8:45 a.m. It will start and end at the same locations.
