Budget hearings
Both city and county commissioners will be present at previously scheduled hearings to discuss the 2009 city budget, the city announced Wednesday.
The first session for public input will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria at Riverside Elementary School, 327 S. West St. The second will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall, 101 Cottonwood St.
For more information, contact the city manager’s office at 343-4250.
Market vouchers
The Salvation Army and ECKAN both still have Emporia Farmer’s Market food checks available to Lyon County seniors who are 60 or older and who receive food stamps. These checks, worth $60, can be used to buy any fresh produce at the Market, and are made out in $2 increments.
The vouchers are part of a pilot project of the Kansas Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, and they expire Sept. 30. If seniors don’t receive food stamps, they can sign up for the commodities program through ECKAN to become eligible for the vouchers.
For information, contact Yvonne Johnson at ECKAN, 342-4607, or Becky Gentry at the Salvation Army, 342-3093.
