Forum at Madison
Two candidates vying for the Republican nomination for a seat in the Kansas House of Representatives are expected to participate in a political forum planned at 7 p.m. Today in the Sauder Community Building in downtown Madison.
Incumbent 76th District representative Peggy Mast of Emporia is expected to attend, as is her opponent, Tony Trimble of Burlington.
In a letter to the editor published in the Madison News last week, Vonda Wiedmer, vice chairwoman of the Greenwood County Republican Committee, had said that Trimble “is refusing to attend.”
Trimble said on Monday that he plans to take part in the forum.
“I received an invitation from that group, and I’m certainly planning on attending,” Trimble said.

Tony's comment is merely deception. He KNOWS that he had no intention of attending that forum in Madison until after the article from came out in the Gazette and Coffey County Republican telling on him. Trimble had received invitations TWICE, not just once, but he claimed to be "booked up until August 5th" and therefore, could not attend.
Comments on the Gazette's previous article were slanderous and against the policy of this forum. For the record, Peggy Long Mast is a wonderful mother. That garbage about multiple husbands and leaving her children in Madison to be raised by someone else is as low as one can go. The truth?
Representative Mast's kids were raised in Hamilton and out of the home well before her separation from their father after 26 years of marriage. She not only raised her own children and two step children, but took in multiple foster kids! She worked with youth groups and 4-H while her kids were in school and drove a school bus. And by the way.....it was only as adults, when her children visited her in Madison, that her kids even spent a night in Madison! Peggy Mast is the REAL THING. If the dirty politics like that of Gtennant's comments and slander in the previous article are indicative of the kind of person whom they hope to replace Peggy Mast with, they have done a tremendous service for House District #76 by letting us know BEFORE the election.

I suspect, Dottie, that the slanderous posts that you refer to may have been placed by a supporter of the Democratic candidate for this office rather than Mr. Trimble or his supporters. I know that they purported to be Mr. Trimble's supporters, but I suspect otherwise. If I were Mrs. Mast I would be mindful that some of the tactics of the Democratic candidate's supporters may be less than ethical. I do believe, however, that Mrs. Strickland herself is above that kind of thing and I hope that she will control some of her overly zealous supporters. It will be the first test of her leadership skills.

Dottie,
Are your kidding me. What specifically did I say that was slanderous? I brought into question the validity of the group calling the forum. Their methods of conducting a fair forum was unethical. They announced a forum to the press before the candidates agreed to attend and then positioned it as if Trimble was pulling out. That is plain wrong.
When this group also has people call the candidate with beligerant calls threatening that if he does not attend they will make him look bad. That is downright unethical.
I questioned the groups ties to Peggy Mast because they took her questions and not his. That is not slanderous. I questioned her objectives over the past eight years, with a primary focus on rap music. That is not slanderous.
Per the question of being a supporter of Mr. Trimble. I am a family friend, but not part of his campaign, not actively campaigning for him or committed to vote for him. I simply want choice and a fair election. Not under the table gimmicks intended to make a candidate look bad. Not calls from Mast supprters making threats about making a candidate look bad if he does not attend a forum he knew nothing about, or its sponsors who used multiple names.
Listen to what Mr. Trimble has to say in a forum that is not intended to make him look bad, and I am sure you will find some very bright ideas, a good person and a candidate that can bring a new vigor for this county. He also had the strength to show up and give his position in light of all the questionable activities and calls.
So PLEASE tell me what I said that was slanderous?
