Nick Gronseth, site administrator for the William Allen White State House State Historic Site, will be the guest at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for an online chat on The Gazette Web site, www.emporiagazette.com. Gronseth will answer questions about the house at 10th Avenue and Exchange Street that for many years was the home of William Allen White and, later, his son William Lindsay White.
The house, restored to its appearance in the days of the elder White, is now administered as a historic site by the Kansas State Historical Society, which offers guided tours.
Questions for Tuesday’s chat may be posted in advance on the Web site or during the chat, which will last half an hour.
Rock hits driver
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The driver of an 18-wheeler is suffering from a head injury after a rock fell from a Kansas City overpass, smashed his windshield and knocked him unconscious.
The rig went out of control on Missouri 350 and crashed at around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Injuries to the 47-year-old truck driver from Raytown are not believed to be life-threatening.
Emergency crews extricated the driver from the trucks sleeper compartment.
Police were trying to determine if the rock broke free from the overpass and fell, or was thrown by an individual.
The highway was closed for a short time while crews worked to remove the semi.
