Wheat State show

Josh Finley will be the performer, along with the Radio City Band, playing at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Wheat State Grille, 707 Commercial St.

Summer theater

The final performance of the ESU Summer Theatre 2008 season will be “I Love You Because,” a modern day musical love story by Joshua Salszman and Ryan Cunningham at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through July 26 in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre at King Hall. For tickets, call the box office at 341-6378.

Brown Bag

The Wednesday noon Brown Bag concert at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., will be Dan Dan the Magic Man, featuring Dan Heath. The last concert this summer, July 30, will be “Emporia’s Got Talent,” with 12 local people competing for prizes. Children who are present at 11 a.m. can create an art project with the Emporia Arts Council. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Wheat State Pizza. Participants are to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, events will be held inside the library.

Live in the Lot

Live in the Lot, sponsored by Flint Hills Music, will have the band, “Running on Empty” beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The movie, at 8:30 p.m., will be “Happy Feet.” The events are held in the parking lot at Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street.

Art classes continue at the Emporia Arts Council, 618 Mechanic St., with those for ages 2-5. Messy Me Art from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, $16.

Classes for children 6-11 are Dads, Donuts and Tie Dye from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, $30 fee covers one child and one adult; Mono Prints from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays, through July 28, $40; Beginners Wheel Throwing from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday,, $85 and July 29-Aug. 7, $65; Tuesday, $60 and July 22-31, $60; Mixed Media from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, session is $28.

Classes for 17 to adult are Linoleum Prints from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through July 30, $40.

Call for entries

Presbyterian Manor is asking for entries in the 28th annual Art is Ageless juried exhibit to be held in August during Artists’ Appreciation Month. Entries of artistic works will be accepted from any area artist who is 65 years or older to exhibit and/or compete to be featured in the 2009 Art is Ageless calendar. Entry forms and information are available at the Emporia manor, 2300 Industrial Road; by calling Ken Hanson at 343-2613; or e-mail: khanson@pmma.org. Works to be entered for judging need to be at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor by July 28. Artists also may choose to enter the exhibit only.

Topeka auditions

Auditions for the performance of “Outlaw,” a western comedy by Norm Foster, at Topeka Civic Theatre will be held for four men on July 26 and 27. The play, about a “young Canadian homesteader traveling far from home who finds himself accused of murder in Kansas in 1871,” will be performed Sept. 6-27. Opera
