The Emporia A-16 Golds couldn’t keep up with Manhattan Manko’s high-powered offense Wednesday, falling 20-3 in four innings at the Zone Tournament in Manhattan.
“We left way too many pitches waist-high,” Emporia coach Jerry Cook said. “Obviously, they were a power-hitting team.”
Manko (29-3) scored six runs in the first before putting up an 11-spot in the third.
Meanwhile, Cook said he was pleased with his team’s offense. Emporia scratched across three runs and struck out just twice.
Ryan Huth contributed an RBI.
Cook also was happy with the play of Garin Burgess, who prevented further damage with a tough catch in the outfield.
Emporia will face an elimination game tonight, taking on Junction City (15-11) at 6 in Manhattan.
