The Emporia Energy U-18 softball team went 2-2 and finished in fourth place at the Region 12 Championship Tournament in Olathe last weekend.
Emporia started off with a victory over the Lee’s Summit (Mo.) Rampage, 6-3. Amber Jones got the win in the circle with eight strikeouts in the four-inning game.
Brittney Dymnioski led the offense with three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Elyse Hecht and Hannah Lynch also contributed two hits apiece.
The Energy lost the next game to the S.W. Missouri Eclipse, 6-5. Jones belted two hits, while Amy McAfee suffered the loss in the circle.
In the third game, the Energy faced Red Cloud (Neb.) and won, 5-4, in its last at-bat.
In the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied at 4, Emporia’s Kylee Scott led off with a single to center. Dymnioski followed by reaching on an error, and Lenae Wells’ single to left loaded the bases.
McAfee ended it, hitting a line-drive single to drive in Scott for the game-winning run.
Wells and McAfee both went 3-for-3. Jones got the win in the circle in relief of Hecht.
The Energy ran out of steam in the semifinals against the Chapman Rocks, losing 6-1.
Emporia (22-12) will finish up its season at the ASA Northern National Championships in Overland Park from July 30-Aug. 3.
