Emporia High Jump Euphoria set for Wednesday
“Emporia High Jump Euphoria,” sponsored by the Emporia Track Club, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Farmers Market in Emporia. The event is free and open to the public.
At 5 p.m., all children are invited to jump. Those who attend will have a chance to try the high jump and vertical jump measurements using Vertec and electronic timing.
At 6 p.m., there will be an elite exhibition, featuring the top middle school, high school and college jumpers in the area.
Elite jumpers expected to attend are Brandon Childs from Emporia High and Alex Pyle, Craig Saalfeld and Jennifer Robinson from Emporia State.

Hatfield qualifies for Central Zone Meet
Emporia Aquatic Club swimmer Maggie Hatfield (age 9) recently qualified to compete in the upcoming United States Swimming Central Zone Meet by swimming the 50-backstroke in a time of 38.85 seconds in Wichita.
The Central Zone Meet will take place in Indianapolis from August 6-10.
Only the top athletes across the central zone (Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Wisconsin) with AAA times qualify to compete in this premier tournament.
Emporia Swim Meet will be this weekend
The Emporia Aquatic Club will host the United States Swimming-sanctioned swim meet on Saturday and Sunday at the Jones Aquatic Center.
Everyone is invited to watch the swim meet, and there is no charge for spectators.
More than 160 swimmers and 15 teams across the state are expected to compete.
Saturday’s events are expected to begin at 9:45 a.m. and conclude around 3:30 p.m., while Sunday’s events are expected to begin at 8:45 a.m. and end around noon.
Because of the meet, the Jones Aquatic Center will be closed for public swimming on Saturday and will re-open on Sunday at 3 p.m.
