Emporian Ken Roper finished second out of 16 entrants at the Midwest Section PGA Senior Match Play Championship last Thursday and Friday at the Nicklaus Golf Club in Overland Park.
Roper, who entered as the ninth-seed, defeated 1999 champion Bud Williamson in the first round, then ousted two-time champion and top-seeded Gary McClure in the second round, two-up.
In the third round, Roper defeated Rick Glenn, two-up, to advance to the championship against No. 2 seed Mark Seitz of Hutchinson.
Roper fell to Seitz in the title match, two-up, despite shooting 1-under par through 17 holes.
It is the second time that Roper has taken runner-up in the event. He also took second in 1999, when he lost to Williamson in the championship.
