Three Emporia Track Club members finished with top-three showings at the Region 9 United States Track and Field Meet in Tulsa, Okla., last weekend.
Brandon Childs won the young men’s high jump, leaping 6 feet, 8 inches. His mark was four inches better than second-place Carl Ponder of the Olathe Express.
Asher Delmott had a pair of runner-up showings, taking second in the young men’s 5,000-meter run (16:42.46) and the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:37.12). In the steeplechase, Delmott finished less than 6 seconds behind winner Jonathan Harris of Jenks America.
Callie Clark added two top-four showings, taking third in the intermediate girls 400-meter dash (1:02.53) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.71 seconds).
A top-three finish at the meet qualified athletes for the USATF National Jr. Olympics in Omaha, Neb., next week.
