This week’s agenda for the Lyon County Commission includes discussion of fuel prices and budgets.
The agenda this week is expected to run until the noon hour in a meeting that starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Lyon County commission chambers. The first item up is fuel prices, to be discussed with City Manager Matt Zimmerman.
Commissioners also will continue to discuss the 2009 budgets, a process that started earlier this year with individual departments coming in to request 2009 appropriation amounts. Lyon County is facing a tough budget year for 2009 in the wake of higher fuel prices and several other factors. In a June commission meeting, County Controller Dan Slater said the first pass of the budgets will be a major challenge for the county.
“They are higher than we hoped they would be,” Slater said. “The first pass of the budget is going to be very bloody, which we expected.”
In other items, commissioners will discuss the 2008 corporate challenge and several items with Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods. Woods’ items include sending an employee to a Risk Management workshop, discuss the low bid of Mel’s Tire for 16 dump truck tires at $272.14 each and review road and sign supervisor’s reports.
