North Lyon County 7th-grade team wins title
Team wins bracket in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON — The North Lyon County Junior Wildcats won the B bracket in the 7th-grade boys division of the MAYB Hutchinson tournament on Sunday.
The Wildcats, with players from Admire, Americus and Emporia, went 1-3 in pool play Friday night and Saturday. They lost to the T-Town Heavyweights, 53-47, in the first game and to the Salina Crusaders, 56-25, in the final game Friday night. On Saturday, the Wildcats lost to the Wichita Splosion, 61-39, before defeating Belle Plain, 48-27, in the afternoon game.
Pool play rankings forced a rematch between the Wildcats at No. 4 and Belle Plain at No. 5 to get into bracket play. The Cats won that game, 47-21, earning a semifinal game against the Wichita Bulls on Saturday night. The Cats won, 46-42. On Sunday morning, they faced the T-Town Heavyweights again in the championship game.
It was the third meeting this season between the two teams, with the Heavyweights winning twice. On Sunday, however, the Cats battled back from a 12-point deficit to win, 46-34.
Team members are Slaytor Parks of Admire; Jacob Beck, Cody Campbell, Eric Huddlestun, Luke Larson, Christopher McWilliams and Cole West of Americus; and Jerel Morrow of Emporia. They are coached by Duane Parks.
The team will finish the summer season at the Manhattan MAYB tournament July 27-29.
