Young Thespians
The Young Thespian Players will perform “Blather, Blarney and Balderdash” in the Black Box Theatre at the Emporia Arts Center today and Saturday. Today’s show begins at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday will feature two shows, one at 2 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale an hour before each show at the arts center, 618 Mechanic St.
Concerts
F A rock band concert will be held today at 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Featured will be The Dead Idols, Like a Phoenix and The Holding Lines.
F Hate Made Easy and Whoracle will play at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Wagon Wheel.
F business:casual will be featured at 8 p.m. July 18 at the Java Cat 5.
Brown Bag
The Wednesday noon Brown Bag concert at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., will be a Musical Showcase with talented students of Jane McCoy. Children who are present at 11 a.m. can create an art project with the Emporia Arts Council. Pizza and beverages will be sold by Wheat State Pizza. Participants are to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, events will be held inside the library.
Osage fair concerts
The 11th annual Concert at the Osage County Fair will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Osage City Fairground in Jones Park. The concert is free and featured artists will be the multi-award winning Mark Trammell Trio of Gadsden, Ala., who plays southern gospel music. Opening the concert evening will be the Sound Advice Quartet, southern gospel recording artists from Topeka. Sound Advice Quartet is in its fourth year and “features good old-fashioned four part harmony,” said the news release. Bleacher seating is available; there is room for lawn chairs and concession will be near the site. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Osage City High School auditorium in Osage City. Art classes continue at the Emporia Arts Council, 618 Mechanic St., with those for ages 2-5 including Creative Movement from 6 to 6:45 p.m. through Sunday, $17; Clay Time from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, $20; Yarn, Buttons and Beads Oh My from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, $15; and Messy Me Art from 11 to 11:45 a.m. July 22-24, $16.
Classes for children 6-11 are Mono Prints from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays, through July 28, $40; Passport to the Arts from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, $30; Beginners Wheel Throwing from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Tuesday through July 24, $85 and July 29-Aug. 7, $65; Tuesday, $60 and July 22-31, $60; Mixed Media from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday or July 22, each session is $28; Dads, Doughnuts and Tie Dye from 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 19, $30 fee covers one child and one adult.

Classes for 17 to adult are Linoleum Prints from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through July 30, $40; and Jazz and Hip-Hop Dance from 6 to 6:45 p.m. July Tuesday through Friday , $25.

Call for entries
Presbyterian Manor is asking for entries in the 28th annual Art is Ageless juried exhibit to be held in August during Artists’ Appreciation Month. Entries of artistic works will be accepted from any area artist who is 65 years or older to exhibit and/or compete to be featured in the 2009 Art is Ageless calendar. Entry forms and information are available at the Emporia manor, 2300 Industrial Road; by calling Ken Hanson at 343-2613; or e-mail: khanson@pmma.org. Works to be entered for judging need to be at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor by July 28. Artists also may choose to enter the exhibit only.
