From the zoo
Lori Andrews - David Traylor Zoo
Wednesday, July 9, 2008
THE STAFF of the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia and the Emporia Park Department are deeply saddened by the events discovered the morning of June 22. We have been taken by surprise that anyone would want to inflict pain and suffering on any animal.
We are very appreciative of the support that Emporia and the surrounding communities have shown to us. We have received several offers to post a reward for the capture of the person or persons involved in this tragedy. We are directing them to Lyon County Crime Stoppers. Donations need to be marked “Zoo birds” and can be mailed to PO Box 2205, Emporia, KS 66801.
We also have received several offers to fund the replacement of the birds and help with measures to prevent this type of incident occurring again. For more information on donating to these causes, please contact the Zoo Office, 341-4365 or you can mail a donation (also marked “Zoo birds”) to Emporia Friends of the Zoo, PO Box 345, Emporia, KS 66801.

We can do this, Emporia. Look what Obama has done with small donations. $5, $10, or a handful of change is all it would take if everyone helps out. We've been going to the zoo for free all these years. Let's get together on this.
