Not the first

I READ the article in tonight’s paper about the police department and its dog. The article states that this dog is the department’s first.
In the 1960s, under Police Chief Jack B. Molden (1963-1969), we acquired a Malamute-Shepherd-mix named Blitz. Officer Bob Brown was his handler.
I recall one occasion when the prisoners in the old city/county jail above what is now the water department refused to go in their cells. Blitz convinced them to do so immediately. We used him for quite a while, until officer Brown left the department.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
