Expensive gas brings jobs back

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

AMONG THE RECORD gasoline prices, home foreclosures and the credit crunch, it can be hard to find some good news for America. But recently, some positive stories have been popping up.

Some Wall Street Journal reports have detailed how increased fuel costs are making it cost-prohibitive to have products shipped from China to America. This has caused orders from America to slow down, which is causing job layoffs and forcing Chinese factories to shut down.

The cost to get a shipping container from China to the United States has nearly tripled since 2000.

So what’s the good news for America?

Companies that once outsourced their work overseas are starting to bring jobs back to the United States. Factories once idle are now being brought back to life.

With our current economic woes, bringing work back to our country is the best thing that can happen.

For decades, America has been under attack by cheap foreign labor and our country and economy are overdue for a turnaround.

America became a great country when its people were employed to make useful products. We need to start making products again instead of just importing them.

While gas prices are squeezing us now, if it brings work back to America and puts people back to work, it may help our country more in the long run.

I think about75% of the products I look at are "made in China." Unless I can't find an American-made item, I won't buy these foreign items--not only are they cheaply-made and sometimes dangerous, I'd rather keep my business at home. Shop America!
