Summer Theatre preps for next show

ESU Summer Theatre continues its 54th season with the wild and politically incorrect comedy “The Complete History of America, Abridged.” Performances of the show can be seen in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre located in King Hall, July 9—12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $5 for students. Tickets can be reserved at the box office by calling 620-341-6378 or toll-free at 877-341-6378.

“The Complete History of America, Abridged” was written and originally performed by Adam Long, Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor. They interpret the past as a breathlessly paced sequence of silly sketches, word association games, puns and crude parodies. Director Kyle Land calls it “a magical journey circumnavigating the cultural history of our great nation.”

Similar to television’s Mad TV and Saturday Night Live, this show is not for the faint of heart and is rated PG-13 for adult situations and language.

Performing “600 years in 6,000 seconds,” the show pokes fun at political figures past and present and is performed by three actors portraying a cast of thousands. They are Tricia Stogsdill (senior, Pleasanton), Gabe Moyer (junior, Olathe) and Paul Howard (junior, Wamego).

The production team is comprised of ESU alums. Kyle Land (’04) is the director. The show features costumes designed by Jamie Urban (’06). 2008 grads Eric Luchen and Michael Wilke design the sets and lighting. Senior Ben Williams is the production stage manager.
