The Emporia A-16 Blue squad had little problem taking care of Burlington on Wednesday, picking up 13-1 and 17-1 run-rule victories in Burlington.
Brett Lechien started Game One, allowing just one run in his five-inning, complete-game effort.
Though Emporia played strong defense, coach Dick Evans said he wasn’t all that pleased with his offense in the first game.
“It was kind of a boring 13 runs,” Evans said. “We had a lot of bloopers. I didn’t think we hit the ball all that hard.”
After challenging his team between games, Evans said his team’s bats “caught fire” in a 17-1, four-inning victory.
Remington Pinick picked up the win, going all four innings on the mound.
Everyone in the lineup had a hit, with Evans citing Adam Ewy and Henry Ott as two standouts at the plate.
“I was worried after the guys had an easy time that they’d play a little bit down,” Evans said. “Instead, they came out and played hard.”
Emporia will have a full week off before playing host to Salina on Wednesday.
