The Emporia Energy U-16 softball team tied for 7th with a 1-2 record at the Class B State Tournament in Wichita last weekend.
Emporia opened with a 5-4 extra-inning loss to Abilene.
The Energy held a lead before struggling down the stretch, giving up three unearned runs in the final two innings.
With the international tiebreaker in place, Emporia scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Abilene came back with two in the bottom of the frame for the win.
Christina Zumbrum led the Energy’s bats, going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.
Cassandra Huth contributed seven strikeouts in the loss.

Hilary Heinrichs was the offensive highlight, going 2-for-2. Lacie Schumann added a 1-for-2 performance, while Katie Weaver went 1-for-3.
In its final game, Emporia fell 1-0 to the Clay Center B’s. Despite being on a one-hour time limit, the game went a full six innings.
Clay Center’s only run came in the fourth, as with two outs, a B’s runner stole third then moved home on a throwing error.
Emporia managed just three hits.
