Enrollment for a new school year begins next week and parents now have the option to complete enrollment online.
Enrollment materials will be mailed Thursday to all returning students and pre-enrolled kindergarten students. Forms can be completed online, returned by mail or delivered to the Board of Education Office, 501 Merchant St., by July 24.
Summer office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays. Parents may write one check for payment of all student fees or pay fees online using EZSchoolPay. Online enrollment will be available July 7 through 24 for returning students only.
Class schedules for Emporia High and Emporia Middle School students also will be online starting July 24. Students can access their schedules through PowerSchool. Printed schedules also will be available at Central Enrollment. Students who need to make changes in their schedules must make appointments with their counselors.
EHS students also must go to the school for lockers and parking permits starting July 25. No parking permits will be issued until payment has been received and processed.
Parents of all district students also may bring the packets to Central Enrollment at Emporia High School from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 25 and 28. Personnel from each school will assist with the enrollment process at EHS.
Food service staff also will be available to process applications for free- and reduced-price lunches, and transportation staff will have information about bus schedules and routes. Parents can pay all fees for K-12 students at one time during central enrollment and payments can be made by cash, check or credit card.
New Students
New students will enroll during Central Enrollment and packets will be provided at that time. Parents of new students should bring each child’s birth certificate, immunization records and record of a physical examination taken any time during the child’s school career. New kindergarten students must have taken a physical exam during the past year.
On both days, the Flint Hills Community Health Center will offer an immunization clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fees will be paid separately to FHCHC and parents should bring proof of income to be considered for sliding-scale fees. Parents should bring immunization records and insurance or medical cards. Parental consent is needed for children under age 18 to receive vaccinations.
Interpreters will be available to assist Spanish-speaking parents and students with the enrollment process.
The first day of school in Emporia is Aug. 11. All K-6 schools will be open for classroom visitations Thursday, Aug. 7.
Hours for each building’s open house will be provided at enrollment and can be found on the calendar on the district web site, www.usd253.org. More information about enrollment, fees and school supply lists also can be found on the Parent Information Page of the web site or by calling 341-2200.
