Order tacos today

Super Bowl tacos will be prepared by the Las Casitas Association for Super Bowl Sunday if orders are given by today. Tacos, fried and ready to eat, are $18 a dozen or $15 a dozen, ready to fry. To place orders, call 344-5430 or 342-2682. Tacos will be ready for pickup by 5 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday.

Ground Hog dinner

The 13th annual Ground Hog Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday downstairs at the First Congregational Church, 326 W. 12th Ave. Entry is on the west side of the church and an elevator is available for those who need assistance. The meal includes individual ham loaves, baked potatoes, green beans, salads, rolls, desserts, coffee or tea. Suggested donations are $6 for adults; $3 for children three through 10; and free for children under three. Proceeds will go to the church special projects fund.

Penny Supper

The Hartford United Methodist Women will serve their Penny Supper beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the church. Some of the foods to be served include ham loaf, chicken pie, pork tenders, homemade noodles, rolls, salads, vegetables, pie and ice cream, beverages.

Pancake Day at St. Andrew’s

The cooks at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church are heating up the griddles and rolling up their sleeves in preparation for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church’s Parish Hall.

Diners are invited to chow down on all the pancakes they want, plus a serving of sausage or turkey ham, as well as coffee and milk or juice. Tickets — $5 for adults, $2 for kids 10 years old and younger — are available in advance through the church office, 342-1537, or at the door Tuesday evening.

The tradition of serving pancakes on the night before Ash Wednesday began centuries ago when people cleared their pantries of fats and other rich foods before the beginning of Lent.

Proceeds of the supper will continue to make possible the ministries of St. Andrew’s.
