Michael W. Gatlin, 47, was taken to Newman Regional Health and later was transferred to an out-of-town hospital Tuesday after an accident at Milepost 131 on Interstate Highway 35.
According to a press release by Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Jarrod Fell, Gatlin was driving a 1996 Ford truck southbound on I-35, when he appeared to have lost control of the vehicle because of weather conditions. Heavy and blowing snow was falling at the time of the accident, which was reported about 11:19 a.m. Tuesday. Gatlin was thrown from the truck.
Gatlin's truck drove through the median and into the northbound lane of traffic, where it struck a 2008 Chevrolet van driven by Rodney L. Morreira, 48. Morreira was treated at the scene by emergency medical service workers of the Emporia-Lyon County Ambulance Service.
Information about the extent of Gatlin's injuries was not available.
