Special recognition at Olpe games

Olpe High School will hold their King and Queen of Courts ceremony Feb.1 when the Olpe Eagles play Wichita Homeschool. The boys and girls JV games begin at 5 p.m. The varsity girls begin at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ varsity game. The crowning will be held immediately after the boys’ game.

The school also will receive its Governor’s Achievement Award for academics, and students will receive their Kansas assessment certificates during the Feb. 1 game.

The game against Northern Heights, originally scheduled for Feb. 19, now will be Feb. 7. At that game, Olpe students will receive their academic letter awards.

On Feb. 8, the 2008 graduating class of Olpe High School will be honored along with their parents during the Olpe and Centre (Lost Springs) basketball game. The 19 seniors will be recognized immediately after the girls’ varsity game which begins at 6 p.m.

Admission to Olpe High School games is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Driving program

The AARP Driver Safety Program for all drivers will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave. The cost is $10. According to the news release, this class is accepted by all Kansas insurance companies for a discount. Participants will get a certificate that will be good for three years. This class will be brand new this year. There will be a one hour break for lunch at noon. Jerry Marshall is the instructor. For more information, call Marshall at 481-5501 or the center at 343-3160.
