Spartan Boys Spring

Basketball League

Sign-up has begun for Spartan Spring League Basketball, a league for boys in first through ninth grades.

The program includes a 12- to 15-game schedule of transition basketball in a competitive atmosphere. Games will be played during weekdays (no weekends) beginning April 3. A league tournament will be held during the first week of May.

Cost is $50 per individual, with a family rate of $20 for each additional son. Cost does not include T-shirt uniform.

Registration dates are Monday, Feb. 25 and Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Emporia High School Cafeteria Commons. Forms also can be found at Mike’s Sporting Goods or Jock’s Nitch. Deadline for registration is Monday, March 3.

Registration forms can be mailed to Coach Rick Bloomquist, Emporia High School, 3302 West 18th Ave., Emporia, KS, 66801. Parents can also register online at www.emporiabasketball.net.

5th-Grade Boys

Basketball Tournament

A fifth-grade boys basketball tournament sponsored by Emporia State’s Pi Omega Pi will be held on Feb. 10 at the Reading Grade School.

There is a $75 entry fee per team, which guarantees each team at least three games. The registration deadline is Feb. 1.

Knights of Columbus

Free Throw Competition

All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2008 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the Emporia High School gymnasium.

The winners of the Free Throw Championship will progress to the district and possibly state competitions. All participants will compete in their respective age divisions.

Participants are required to provide proof of age and have written parental consent. For entry forms or for additional information, contact Cruz Jasso at 342-7075. Forms also will be available at the contest site
