Sign-ups will begin by 6 p.m. for the Lyon County Democrats’ presidential caucus, scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Best Western Motel, 3021 West Highway 50. The caucus is open to Democrats and to Independents and Republicans who want to change parties, according to information from party chairman Jerry Karr.
Voters can register or change parties at the caucus site.
Karr said that voters must be signed in or in line by 7 p.m. to be able to vote. The caucus will be for eligible voters in the 17th State Senate District, which includes Lyon, Marion, Chase and Morris counties, as well as parts of Greenwood, Coffey and Osage counties.
The caucus here will select eight people to attend the First Congressional District caucus in Hays on April 12.
The Kansas delegation to the national convention will include a total of 21 delegates and four alternates, elected at the four Congressional District Caucuses, according to information from Karr. An additional 7 at-large delegates, 4 party-leader and elected-official delegates, 1 unpledged “add-on” delegate and 1 alternate will be chosen at the state convention in May.
The national convention will be held in Denver on Aug. 25 through 28.
