The Emporia State women posted six top-three finishes at the KSU Wildcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Manhattan. It was the first meet for the team after winter break.

“I was just glad to see the team back in action,” ESU coach Dave Harris said. “When you look at it, we have been off competition since the first weekend in December. I suspect the individuals on our team will show the greatest improvement in the next three to four weeks.”

The Hornets were led by Brooke Kent, who had three top-five showings.

Kent finished third in the long jump (18 feet, .50 inches), fourth in the 200-meter run (26.92 seconds) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.89 seconds).

“She is stepping up as a sophomore,” Harris said.

Linzi Weilert picked up ESU’s only runner-up finish, taking second in the shot put (41 feet, 11.5 inches).

The other third-place winners were Jaclyn Sill in the 600-yard run (28.13 seconds), Kathryn Davison in the 800-meter run (2:26.46), Chastity Hughes-Stanton in the 400-meter run (1:02.81) and the ESU 4x400 relay team (4:11.19).

Brandi Lundgren added a fourth-place showing in the 600-yard run (1:28.96).

“I thought Sill and Brandi Lundgren in the 600-yard competed well,” Harris said. “They had some great competition from the Missouri State women and ran very good times on K-State’s tight 200-meter track.”

Both the men’s and women’s teams will compete this weekend at the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa.
