Today
The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.
Alpha Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa meets at 7 p.m. at the home of Louise Wright, who will be assisted by Kathy O’Mara.
Tuesday
The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.
P.E.O. Chapter HY meets at 9:30 a.m. for “Founders Day” and a tour of the Granada Theatre. Margaret Timmons will serve as hostess.
Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday during January at the Wheat State Grill, 707 Commercial St. Information: Rufus Hobbs, 392-5780
The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.
The Emporia Duplicate Bridge Club meets at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. Information: Clara Elkins at 342-5274.
The Twin Rivers Chapter of Sweet Adelines meets at 7 p.m. in the basement of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1408 W. 12th Ave. Information: 342-9419 or 342-4850, evenings.
The American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 regular meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave., where the American Legion Auxiliary meets at 9 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month. The Sons of the American Legion Post 5 meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
Wednesday
The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.
A.A.R.P. Chapter 285 meets at 11:30 a.m. at the Regency Gardens. Walter Spencer will present the program, “Grand Canyon Mule Ride.” Visitors are welcome.
Military Order of the Purple Heart meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. Information: Aaron Bura, 342-4381.
Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.
The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.
The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.
Saturday
The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport.
