Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported on Jan. 11 that 20 people have applied for the emergency manager position in Coffey County. The position is expected to be filled in April. Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers has been serving as interim emergency management director since September. Rogers told Coffey County commissioners that a committee will screen applicants and pare the field in half. Interviews will be scheduled at a later date.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported on Tuesday that Kenny Roney and Jessica Vander Linden were crowned 2008 Winter Homecoming Queen and King during half-time of the boys’ varsity basketball game against the visiting Eureka Tornadoes.
Gridley
The Coffey County Republican reported on Tuesday that an exercise program designed for people with arthritis will begin Monday. The free classes will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday and Thursday at the Gridley Branch of the Coffey County Library. Classes will be held through March 13 and are open to people of all ages who live in Coffey County.

Chase County
The Chase County Leader-News reported on Thursday that the Chase County Board of Commissioners discussed a pay increase for county employees at Monday’s meeting. The board took no action.
Commissioner Rick Griffin told the board he had determined that a four percent increase for county employees would cost the county about $70,000.
