Parent-teacher conferences will be held earlier again this semester in the Emporia public schools, in an effort to help parents and students improve grades before the end of the quarter.
Spring semester conferences will be held Feb. 13 and 14, about a month before the end of the third-quarter.
Parents will not receive grade cards during conferences, but they will learn how their children are doing in their classes and if changes are needed to improve achievement.
Elementary parents also will receive usernames and passwords to access their childrens’ information in PowerSchool.
Conferences will be held on the evening of Feb. 13 and all day on Feb. 14 at all of the schools. Some schools may also schedule evening conferences earlier in the week. Students will not attend classes on Feb. 14 and 15.
The earlier conferences were recommended by the District Calendar Committee when the 2007-2008 calendar was adopted by the board of education. The purpose of the earlier schedule is to keep parents better informed about their children’s progress in school and avoid surprises at the end of the quarter when grades are mailed.
Parents are encouraged to bring any questions or concerns to discuss with the teacher. Spanish interpreters will be at all of the schools to assist parents and teachers.
