Extension office is home at last

Friday, January 18, 2008

Despite a few inches of snow Wednesday night, the Lyon County Extension Office managed Thursday to get settled in its new home near the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

The move to 2632 W. Highway 50 has been a long time coming for the extension office. When the county sold its old office and work lagged on the new quarters, the office had to be moved into temporary quarters in the Lyon County Annex, next to the courthouse. Extension personnel have been sharing a small open space in the annex since the end of November while waiting for their new building to be ready.

Before that, the office was located in the building that Lyon County sold to TFI Family Services. Under that agreement, the extension office had to move out of that building at 618 Commercial St. by Nov. 30, 2007.

Folks – the Marlin here again

Chili. Piping Hot Chili. Piping-Hot Texas-Style Chili. I am going to dump a five gallon bucket of Piping-Hot Texas-Style Chili on myself and march (knocking first, of course) into the abandoned office because of this electro-article (no paper, I don’t think, but maybe in a stand). This act of peaceful resistance is necessary to call attention to the reporting of the world’s most boring and misleading piece of news.

I believe this article was written in a particular manner to get the reader to arrive at a specific conclusion. For example, you talk about these buildings like they are alive (e.g. getting snowed on), leading us on, getting us to care for them, and then telling us that they are ABANDONED and sold. How are we supposed to feel? And we never even know who ‘owns’ (if that is the right word) the old office. I think you want us to hate the new building, but that’s just me/us.

I’ll give you exciting news reported objectively. I made a sandwich. You see? Simple, to the point, not slanted at all and pertinent to today’s interests.

Anyway, who’s up for smoking a few cigars and hiking up to the zinger factory for some hand outs this weekend? Also, I will not be commenting much more because I have begun to ‘square off’ a bit. There are too many right angles around here, and it has been affecting me and my/their/his personality.

Marlin, you are missing the boat. No one's abandoning anything, we're just kicking in tax dollars for moving offices and, frankly, I'm tired of paying for frills. Have you ever eaten in a moving restaurant? They are always the most expensive ones in a town, all up-high and spinning. I don't treat myself to moving restaurants and I sure as heck don't expect the Lyon County folks to be treating themselves to some sort of moving robot office.

Moving offices? What's next? Offices under the sea? I can only assume this Moving Office funding came out of the Robot Fund created to buy our voting robots, which should have been spent on a bridge and road-repair robot anyhow, as I have said on record.

Bottom line: who the heck is watching the Robot Fund money? Today it's moving offices but mark my words, pretty soon it's ivory backscratchers and a Pina Colada machine for the county workers, and I'm sick of the malfeasance.
