The clash of the two top teams in the Lyon County League lived up to its billing, as unbeaten Olpe needed overtime to take down Lyndon, 49-44.
Olpe (10-0, 9-0 LCL) jumped out to a 21-17 lead and a 34-29 third-quarter advantage before Lyndon stormed back.
The Lady Tigers (7-2, 6-2 LCL) put together a 12-7 run in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
The Lady Eagles’ Megan Woods did her damage in the extra frame, putting in a pair of field goals.
Kylie Haag and Katie Moyer both added a pair of free throws, helping Olpe outscore Lyndon 8-3 in overtime.
Woods led Olpe, the Lyon County League regular-season champ, with 14 points, while Moyer (11), Haag (10) and Kathryn Flott (10) all added double figures.
Erica Brinkman (four points) was the only other Olpe player who scored.

Madison boys 62, Flinthills 52
A dominant first half was enough to propel the Madison Bulldogs to a 62-52 victory over Flinthills on Tuesday in Rosalia.
Madison led 23-14 after one quarter, then used a 20-8 run to take a 43-22 halftime lead.
“I was real pleased with our first half intensity,” Madison coach Alan Brown said. “We need to keep that throughout whole game.”
As they normally do, though, the Bulldogs made things interesting in the second half.
Flinthills cut the lead to 10 points but couldn’t get any closer, as Madison made enough plays down the stretch to hold onto its dwindling lead.
“I can’t put my finger on it yet,” Brown said. “We keep trying to finish it out.
“It is a concern, but I think the young men know that we just need to try to keep the same intensity up.”
Eric Porter and Kaleb Schankie led Madison, as each had 18 points.
Caleb Hamilton, Sid Childers and Kale Schankie added seven points apiece.
Grant Vogt and Tyler Wilson paced Flinthills with 12 points each, while Dalton Skiles hit double digits with 11.

Burlingame boys 61, Chase County 49
The Burlingame boys took a 31-21 lead into halftime and kept Chase County at bay after that, as the Bearcats (4-7, 3-5 Lyon County League) never allowed the Bulldogs to threaten their lead in the second half on their way to a 61-49 victory.
“It was a pretty physical and intense game,” Burlingame coach Creighton Winters said. “Overall we played pretty well.”
Burlingame’s Chris Patterson stole the show, scoring 26 points to lead all scorers. Patterson’s teammate, Chris Walker, also crept into double figures with 11 points. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer was Eli Fowler, who scored 10 points. Brian Palermo was right behind with nine points for Chase County (1-8, 1-8).

MdCV boys 53, Waverly 47
The Marais des Cygnes Valley Trojans wasted little time jumping out on the Waverly Bulldogs, as the Trojans took a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and held on from there to defeat the Bulldogs, 53-47.
Waverly (3-8, 2-6 Lyon County League) did mount a final-quarter comeback by out scoring MdCV, 16-10, in the fourth period, but the Trojans (7-2, 6-2), led by Dennis Becker’s 19 points, were able to fend off the pesky Bulldogs.
“It’s just a really positive win,” MdCV head coach Thad Thurston said.
Joining Becker in double figures was Chisom Spencer, who scored 12 points. The game’s leading scorer was Waverly’s Mike Sarver, who scored 20 points as the only Bulldog to hit double figures.

Olpe boys 59, Lyndon 44
In a game of runs, the Olpe boys were one scoring spurt too strong for the Lyndon Tigers, as the Eagles wrapped up an undefeated league season with a 59-44 victory at Lyndon.
Olpe looked like it would knock the Tigers out in the first half, as the Eagles got out to a 16-2 lead to start the game.
“I thought it was big that, on the road, we got off to a good start and took their crowd out of it,” Olpe coach Chris Schmidt said. “Our pressure defense early was really good — we got a bunch of layups early.”
Lyndon, however, did not go away so easily.
The Tigers still trailed by 12 at halftime, 38-26, before going on a run in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 10-2 out of the break to draw to within four points at 40-36.
But Olpe had an answer, closing out the game by outscoring Lyndon 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
“Give Lyndon credit, they fought back and had a little run on on us,” Schmidt said. “But we settled down and made a couple baskets. I think it took energy out of them (Lyndon) to come back, and we withstood that.”
Olpe (10-0, 9-0 Lyon County League) now has a week off before the start of the Lyon County League tournament, while Lyndon (2-7, 2-6) plays host to Burlingame on Friday in a make-up game.
