Recycling center

Sunday, Dec. 30, we took the recycling over to the center. First nice day in awhile, so we had a bunch of stuff. The place was really busy and all the other Emporians had a lot, also.

This was the LAST SUNDAY for the recycling center to be open. “Finances” was the reason given by an employee. Now I can see closing this time of year, but I see a real need for the place to be open when people are mowing on Sundays. “Nope.”

I suggested that the weight booth be open and was still told, “No, not going to happen.”

Now just what are people going to do with their grass when they mow on Sundays? Leave it in their vehicle to ferment for days? Or will they just dump it in the polycart?

The city commission is paying thousands of dollars for a survey to find out what people want, and have now stopped spending a few thousand dollars on a service people really want. Does this make sense?

Citizens want the center to be open when they need to recycle. (Also, snow removal would be nice, but that is a different letter).

Spend the tax money on the everyday essential services!

It has nothing to do with "rich people". This is about a service that is publicly paid for with taxes and what the taxpayers are saying is that having the dump and/or recycling center closed on Sundays is NOT how they wish their money to be saved. From what I have gathered in recent articles (and the comments) is that people would prefer these places to be closed on a weekday instead of a weekend day.

What's wrong with Monday? I mean, you can't even use the DMV on Mondays. Or how about opening from 8-12 on Sundays? Or maybe 12-4?

I have the same issue in my town. Our dump is open M-F from 8-4 (business hours) and then only open the first Saturday of the month from 8-12 during winter hours.

I never understood why the people in the government (local, state or federal) do the opposite of what is wanted.

What would be the cost to have the thing open on Sunday like it was in 2007. Does anyone know hard figures?
