Lebo girls shrug off slow start, go on to defeat Waverly, 61-44

After getting off to a slow start, the Lebo Lady Wolves picked up the pace in a 61-44 victory against the Waverly Lady Bulldogs

Neither team had an impressive first quarter, as going into the second quarter, Waverly held just a 6-3 lead.

The Lady Wolves picked things up soon after, however, using an 18-12 run to take a 21-18 halftime lead.

With their momentum on the upswing, the Lady Wolves tacked on 28 points in the third quarter, pushing their lead to 17 points.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Wolves was Shelby Robke with 19 points. Behind Robke was Megan Steward, who had 15 points.

Chase County girls 37, Hartford 26

In a matchup of husband and wife, Gene Windle improved his record to 2-1 over significant other Tammy in Chase County’s 37-26 victory over Hartford.

Up by two at the half, the Chase County Lady Bulldogs out-scored Hartford 20-11 in the second half.

The Lady Jaguars started out strong, taking an 11-8 the lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs stepped up their defense, though, reducing the Jaguars’ total to four points for the entire period to take a 17-15 lead.

Amy Bolen led Hartford in scoring with 17 points. Following Bolen was Aubrey Watts for the Lady Bulldogs, who had 14 points.

Lyndon 54, Flinthills 16

The Lyndon girls bounced back from their first loss of the season in a big way Friday night, taking down Flinthills, 54-16.

Led by Krista Banzhaf and Chelsea Schmitz, who each scored 13 points, the Lady Tigers rolled the Lady Mustangs, particularly in the second and third quarters when Lyndon outscored Flinthills by a combined 33-7.

Banzhaf did most of her damage at the free-throw line, connecting on 7 of 8 free throws, while Schmitz was responsible for the game’s line 3-pointer, which came in the second quarter.

Kayla Schmidt also scored in double figures for Lyndon, as she had 10 points.

Hannah Jackson led Flinthills with seven points.

Lyndon is now 7-1, while Flinthills fell to 1-10.

Olpe 61, Burlingame 28

The Olpe girls overcame a somewhat sluggish start and went on to rout Burlingame, 61-28.

Leading by just eight after the first quarter, the Lady Eagles went on a 20-4 scoring spurt in the second period that helped Olpe get out to a 35-11 halftime lead. After the break, Olpe held Burlingame to just seven total points.

“I thought their kids played really hard,” Olpe coach Jesse Nelson said, “and I thought that they were very well prepared by their coach.”

Olpe freshman Kathryn Flott led all scorers with 19 points. Erica Brinkman (12), Katie Moyer (11) and Kylie Haag (11) also scored in double figures for the Lady Eagles, who improved to 9-0 on the season.

For Burlingame, which dropped to 5-5, Meghan Atchison led the way with seven points while Gretchen Vandevord had seven.
