Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported on Jan. 4 that the new executive director of the Coffey County Chamber of Commerce is Jennifer Anderson. Anderson began her new job on Dec. 20.

Among Anderson’s goals is listening to the chamber members, business owners and operators to meet their expectations of what they want out of the chamber. Anderson said the chamber members are its greatest asset and she plans to give them a voice.

Waverly

The Coffey County Republican reported on Jan. 4 that the Waverly City Council renewed a 10-year franchise agreement with Kansas Gas Service.

Kansas Gas Service representatives Joe Sinnett and Margaret Steele discussed the franchise agreement renewal, which was set to expire on Dec. 7. Through the new agreement, Kansas Gas Service will pay the city of Waverly a five percent franchise fee.

Madison

The Madison News reported on Thursday that the Madison City Council approved the contract between the city and the sheriff on Monday. Sheriff Mark Kenneson was present at the meeting to discuss the contract. He told council members that whether or not the city renews the contract, law enforcement will still be provided to Madison like every other area of the county. The contract passed by a vote of 3-2.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported on Tuesday that an Irish Setter, Buddy, is the top dog in his class, the Open “A” class for Irish setters.

Lee Bates, Buddy’s owner, said Front and Finish magazine ranked “Good Boy Buddy CDX” at the top of the charts in last year’s September edition.

Cottonwood Falls

The Chase County Leader-News reported on Jan. 10 that the Cottonwood Falls City Council met on Monday and waived the permit fee for a bio-diesel plant that is to be built. The council agreed that it was in the best interest of the city to waive the fee. The council was presented with building plans for the bio-diesel plant’s 200’x80’ main building.
