The Lyon County Commission has a new chairman and vice-chair following Thursday’s re-organization of the board for 2008.
Scott Briggs, the newest member of the board, was voted the new chairman. Marshall Miller, who served as chairman last year, was voted vice-chairman. The changes were made during Thursday’s action session.
Also during Thursday’s meeting, commissioners heard a financial report by financial consultant Bobbie Agler of A&M Consultants. Agler told commissioners he is pleased with the 2007 year-end numbers. Agler gave commissioners encouraging financial reports consistently throughout 2007.
Agler said the individual funds in Lyon County’s general fund came in within budget.
“From a cash balance standpoint, we are in good shape,” Agler said.
On a grading system the county set up, most funds received grades of “A, B and C.”
In spite of tighter budgeting, Agler said funds came out in good shape.
“The results are speaking for themselves,” he said.
Budgeted funds in the county also received primarily A, B and C grades.
“That’s a grade card I’d be proud of,” Agler said.
County Controller Dan Slater said most of the C grades are primarily appropriation accounts.

F Commissioners discussed the use of a room in the Lyon County Annex for a juvenile intake and assessment program. County Counselor Marc Goodman raised some concerns about using the room for juvenile intake. He said some juveniles who are being taken into custody may present the need for security in the building. He also asked how the room is going to be furnished and how will that be paid for. Slater said the Annex is hard to secure because it’s not set up like the Lyon County Courthouse. The Annex has multiple entrances and exits. The discussion was continued.
F Commissioners voted to increase funding for kitchen appliances at the Lyon County Extension Office near the Lyon County Fairgrounds by $800. To make the kitchen Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant, the cost of the kitchen equipment went up.
