Exhibit at ESU
“The Fabric of Landscapes” by ESU emeritus faculty member Bryan Grove opens Jan. 18 at Emporia State University Norman R. Eppink art gallery and continues through Feb. 26. The news release said Grove will exhibit “his abstract landscape creations made of fabric and mixed media, as well as a new direction consisting of brightly colored sewn abstract forms representing the new landscape of his life.”
EAC party
The Emporia Arts Council is presenting “Gaelic Storm,” a Mardi Gras party on Feb. 5. According to the press release, the group continues to “broaden the musical horizons of the Celtic music genre by creating compelling originals and fresh arrangements steeped in Irish traditional melody and acoustic instrumentation combined with their unique blend of world rhythms.” They have produced six albums and appeared in the film, “Titanic.” For more information, call 343-6473.
Quilt art
The Wichita Art Museum is presenting “Odyssey of a Quilt” by Terry Thompson at 3 p.m. Saturday. (The incorrect date was given in Arts Notes last week). Thompson will discuss the stories and images of her 40 years of quiltmaking. Along with being a quiltmaker, she is an historian and author of several books. There is no charge, but reservations are required and can be made by calling (316) 268-4917.

Columbian show
The Columbian Theatre in Wamego is offering “Martini Night,” music and comedy inspired by the “Rat Pack,” at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The doors will open at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m., Sunday. Hors d’oeuvres will be served during the performances. Tickets for the show are $35 each, with the suggested age of 18 years and older. Documentary
Lone Chimney Films will show its latest documentary, “Bloody Dawn: The Lawrence Massacre,” at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Columbian Theatre in Wamego. According to the press release, the film tells the story of the 1863 sacking of Lawrence by guerillas led by William Quantrill and is based on the book by historian Thomas Goodrich.
The film will premiere at 7:30 p.m. today at the Orpheum Theatre in Wichita and will be shown Saturday at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. Tickets are $6 at Wamego or call the box office at (785) 456-2029.
Writing contest
Winfield Arts and Humanities Council is sponsoring the Kansas Voices Writing Contest, with entries to be postmarked by March 15. Entries must be unpublished stories or poems accompanied by an official entry form and a $3 entry fee for each submission.
