Madison hands Lyndon 1st loss, 58-51

The Madison Lady Bulldogs took down Lyndon, 58-51, on Tuesday, handing the Lady Tigers their first loss of the season.

A strong start helped the Lady Bulldogs, as they out-scored Lyndon, 22-7, in the first quarter.

“Our girls played a great basketball game tonight,” Madison head coach Glen Stout said.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was sophomore Morgan Stout, who scored 16 points. Following Stout was Abby Kyle with 12 points.

The Lady Tigers were paced by Krista Banzhaf, who scored a game-high 19 points. After Banzhaf, Stephanie Goetz aided the Lady Tigers’ cause with 14 points.

No. Heights 46, Mission Valley 34

After leading by just one point at halftime, the Northern Heights girls pulled away from Mission Valley in the third and fourth quarters and were able to finish out the game with a 46-34 victory over Mission Valley.

“I thought that we got out to a very strong start in the first quarter,” Heights coach Tim Riemann said. “Defensively in the second half, we played very well and did a good job of forcing Mission Valley into some tough shots.”

The Lady Cats allowed only 10 Mission Valley points after halftime.

Mission Valley was led in scoring by Vanessa Finlay and Abby Sage, as each scored 12 points.

Andrea Miller scored a team-high 16 points for the Ladycats. Miller was followed by teammate Amy Lee, who scored eight points.

Chase Co. 46, MdCV 34

Holding a large lead for most of the game, the Chase County Lady Bulldogs fought their way to a 46-34 victory over the Marais des Cygnes Valley Lady Trojans.

“The girls played a good game,” Chase County assistant coach Cammy Onek said. “It was a very well-fought game from both parties.”

Chase County grabbed a 17-7 first quarter advantage and cruised from there, also out-scoring MdCV 13-6 in the third quarter.

Ashley Cahoone finished with eight two-point field goals and one three-point shot, which gave her a game-high 19 points. The next closest to Cahoone was MdCV’s Cheyenne Russell, who scored 10 points.

Waverly 56, Hartford 37

Waverly out-scored Hartford by 15 points in the third quarter to turn a closely contested matchup at halftime into a 19-point victory Tuesday night in Waverly.

The Lady Bulldogs did most of their damage from the free-throw line in the third quarter, going 10-of-17 from the charity stripe on the way to out-scoring the Lady Jaguars 23-8 in the period, turning what had been a 21-14 Waverly lead at the half into a 44-22 edge heading into the fourth quarter.

Behind six early points from Amy Bolen — she finished with 10 points — Hartford actually held a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Lebo answered with a 12-4 scoring surge in the second period.

Hartford managed to out-score Waverly in the fourth quarter, 15-12, but could never get within striking distance of the Lady Bulldogs.

Waverly’s Megan Steward led all scorers with 18 points, scoring 14 of her points in the second half.
