The new Lyon County Extension Office building near the Lyon County Fairgrounds is nearly move-in ready with only a few last minute touch-ups to be done before the organization can start moving in.
The move has been a long time coming for the extension office, 2632 W. Highway 50, which had to be moved into temporary quarters in the Lyon County Annex, located next to the Lyon County Courthouse. Extension personnel have been sharing a small open space in the annex since the end of November while waiting for their new building to be ready. Prior to that the office was located in the building that Lyon County sold to TFI Family services. Under that agreement, the extension had to move out of that building on Commercial Street by Nov. 30, 2007.
Following a walk-through Tuesday afternoon Dustin Ochs, of Central Kansas Engineering Consultants, said what is left in the remodel of the building, which is handled by Markowitz Builders, is minor. Ochs said the work that still needs to be done is work on some doors and some paint touch-up.
Ochs told representatives from the extension office after the walk-through that he doesn’t see any reason why they can’t start moving in. The building also has the go-ahead from City Code Services for occupancy.
Ochs said he still needed to get with Markowitz. Ochs said he was planning on making his recommendation to the Lyon County Commission meeting today.
